Olivarez Ilas in First Through Two Rounds in Miami
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Bernice Olivarez Ilas of the Aztec women’s golf team is leading the Hurricane Invitational through two rounds. She shot a six-under-par 138 which included a career-low 67 in the second round.
The Aztecs as a team are in ninth place after shooting a 578 (290-288, +2). SDSU’s rounds of 290 and 288 were their lowest on the year.
Olivarez Ilas shot a one-under par 71 in the first round, recording a team-high three birdies, including back-to-back ones on the fourth and fifth holes (both par fours), to offset consecutive bogeys in the 12th and 13th hole. Olivarez Ilas’ second round was highlighted by an eagle on the par five 480-yard first hole. She finished her second 18 bogey-free.
Anika Sato matched Olivarez Ilas for the lowest score among Aztecs in the first round with a 71, her best round of the season. She had just one bogey (hole 5) to go with two birdies and 15 pars. She then shot a 73 in the second round. Sato’s 28 pars tied for the third most on the day.
Anna Lina Otten and Sammy Lee each finished with a 149 through 36 holes. Both carded a 75 in the first round and then a 74 in the second round.
April Ranches shot a 152 with a 73 in the first 18 and a 79 in the second. Her first round featured 15 pars, including seven straight to begin the day.
Andrea Gomez, who was playing as an individual and in her first tournament since the spring of 2021, also shot a 152. Her second round 74 tied for the third best score among Aztecs.
