Miami’s 2023 class is full of quality as UM is on pace to sign its best class of the 247Sports era

Quantity is important for building out any recruiting class, but more important is the quality of player a class brings in.

Miami’s 2023 recruiting class features plenty of quality.

After securing the pledge of five-star cornerback Cormani McClain, the nation’s No. 2 overall player, the Hurricanes own the No. 8 overall class in the 2023 cycle, according to 247Sports.

While ranking inside the top ten is something to be celebrated in its own right, the quality of UM’s class is even more impressive.

When ranking the 2023 classes by the average recruit score, UM’s class checks in at No. 5 overall in the country (when ranking classes that feature at least 15 commits).

Here is a look at the top ten schools when ranked by average recruit score in the 2023 cycle:

1. Alabama: 94.10

2. Ohio State: 93.33

3. Georgia: 93.28

4. Notre Dame: 92.89

5. Miami: 92.49

6. LSU: 92.27

7. Texas: 92.26

8. Oklahoma: 92.23

9. Clemson: 91.73

10. Florida: 91.72

Miami’s average recruit in this 2023 cycle would rank as the No. 193 overall prospect in the country.

Here are the stats that highlight the quality of this Miami class: two commits rank inside the top ten, six commits rank inside the top 100, nine commits rank inside the top 150.

This first full class for Mario Cristobal at Miami is also well on its way to being the best Hurricanes class of the 247Sports era, which dates back to the 2011 cycle.

Miami’s best recruiting class in the 247Sports era is the 2018 bunch that finished the cycle ranked No. 8 overall in the country. That 2018 class finished with a class score of 280.87 overall. The average recruit score of Miami’s 2018 class checked in at 90.99.

This 2023 class currently has a class score of 274.51.

UM is not done adding to this 2023 class with top targets like five-star OL Samson Okunlola, four-star DL Rueben Bain, four-star DL Jordan Hall, four-star CB Damari Brown, four-star RB Christopher Johnson, and three-star ATH Edwin Joseph all still on the board—as well as other top targets that Cristobal and the staff are chasing behind the scenes.

Miami’s 2023 class is on the verge of being a special group.
