Miami football DT Darrell Jackson had breakout game versus UNC

Defensive tackle Darrell Jackson had a breakout game for the Miami football team versus North Carolina with seven tackles and one sack. Jackson has quickly become a force in the middle of the Miami defensive line after transferring from Maryland during the offseason. Jackson leads the Miami DL with 13 tackles and has two sacks.

Jackson played the most among the DTs for Miami with 32 snaps versus North Carolina. Miami signed the 6’6, 300-pound Jackson after he had 22 tackles as a true freshman at Maryland last season. Jackson was part of a Miami defense that had five sacks versus North Carolina. Jackson was Miami’s best player versus UNC.

According to David Lake of Inside the U, Pro Football Focus gave Jackson an 85.9 grade overall versus North Carolina and an 86.6 grade against the run. Jackson set career highs with the seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss versus North Carolina and the sack equaled his career output versus Texas A&M last month.

With Jackson anchoring the Miami defensive line, the Hurricanes are 21st nationally allowing 100.20 rushing yards per game in 2022. North Carolina set seasons highs versus the Miami football team with 41 carries for 161 rushing yards and added a TD in their 27-24 win over Miami on Saturday.

Jackson was named to the PFF defensive team of the week for his performance versus North Carolina. Defensive end Jahfari Harvey and Jackson are the only two Miami DL to start every game this season. Receiving the most snaps at DT by Jackson has been impressive with Jared Harrison and Leonard Taylor returning.

In addition to leading the Miami DL in tackles, Jackson is tied for fourth on the Hurricanes with 2.5 TFLs and is second with two sacks. As a true sophomore Jackson has quickly exceeded his recruiting ranking as the 715th player, 90th DL and 95th in Florida out of Gadsden County in the Class of 2020.
