You may remember that as one of the final acts of President Donald Trump’s term, he granted clemency to several notable celebrities including Lil Wayne.

Trump granted a full pardon to the rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. The pardon was granted after Lil Wayne was charged with possession of a firearm.

On Dec. 23, 2019, an anonymous tip led Miami police officers and federal agents to board the rapper’s Gulfstream V jet at Opa-Locka Executive Airport after a trip from California. Agents reported finding a gold-plated .45-caliber Glock handgun with a pearl grip in a Coach bag aboard the jet. He pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a federal offense that carried a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Trump noted in the White House’s official statement about the pardon that “Mr. Carter has exhibited . . . generosity through commitment to a variety of charities, including donations to research hospitals and a host of food banks.”
