Here are the top five stories today in Miami:

1. Miami Beach Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez has proposed putting a bounty on iguanas to help control the population in South Florida and control spending. “I don’t know – dead or alive. But if we pay per iguana we’re going to get more iguanas” she said. “People are going to go out and hunt them for money. I think that’s a better use of our money.” (WPLG Local 10)

2. Tropical Storm Fiona is strengthening as she moves through the Caribbean Sea. The National Hurricane Center has advised Floridians living on the southeast coast to brace for impacts as Fiona nears the southeastern Bahamas, only 110 miles east of Miami, early next week. (Tampa Patch)

3. Coral Gables-based Shoma Group plans to build condos instead of apartments at a North Bay Village site it acquired earlier this year. Prices would start in the $400,000s, according to a press release. Shoma Bay will be a 21-story mixed-use project with 327 condos on a 2.8-acre property. (The Real Deal – Miami)

4. Sergeant Guillermo Oeding, an active member of the U.S. Army, received a Rheem AC unit, which includes a 10-year warranty and service from Air Pros USA and the Miami Dolphins. “We are excited from the Miami Dolphins from our Football Unites Program to be able to bring you a new air conditioning unit,” said Rashauna Hamilton. They chose to donate an AC unit due to the scorching heat in South Florida. (NBC Miami)

5. A lockdown at McArthur High School was lifted on Friday afternoon after someone made a prank call that there was an active shooter on campus. Law enforcement searched all the rooms and buildings in the school for a potential shooter or anyone injured. No shooter was found and there were no reported injuries. (WSVN)
