Beloved great-grandmother fatally shot in Miami’s Liberty City

A great-grandmother was fatally shot on Friday night in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood.

According to Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, police officers found the 89-year-old woman injured after responding to a ShotSpotter alert at Northwest 10 Avenue and 52 Street.

Miami Fire Rescue personnel also responded and took the woman to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Delva said a doctor pronounced her dead.

Reese Level said the victim was her 86-year-old aunt Elizabeth Level, a beloved great-grandmother who was the victim of a drive-by shooting in front of her home.

“My aunt was outside. A car rolled by and they started shooting and they hit her,” Reese Level said later adding, “She lived to see all of her grandkids and great, great grandkids.”

Voter registration records show Level, 85, residing at 1015 NW 52 St., in Miami. Property records show she had owned the three-bedroom home since 1971.
