1. An accused Capitol Hill insurrectionist from Miami who livestreamed himself inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 asked a judge in his criminal trial for permission to travel back to Washington, D.C. to celebrate fellow January 6 defendants. “Come support your January 6th heroes at the biggest J6 event to date!” reads the event flyer for the gathering. 2. City of Miami Police and Fire Rescue units responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area of Northwest 10th Avenue and 52nd Street in Miami’s Liberty City on Friday evening just before 6:30 p.m. Police officers found an 89-year-old victim near a home suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. An investigation is now underway. (WSVN, WPLG Local 10)

3. Miami-Dade County is planning to create a County Ambassador Program that will pay former county commissioners up to $25,000 per fiscal year. Commissioner Raquel Regalado has numerous concerns about the program including that the chairman will have sole authority to handpick county ambassadors. (CBS Miami)

4. Hay Maze is bringing autumn vibes to Bayfront Park in downtown Miami from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, November 6. The maze will be filled with autumn photo props including sunflowers, pumpkins and scarecrows as well as a leaf pit. There will also be an adult-only beer garden and a number of libations available as well as live music. (Time Out Miami)

5. Coral Gables is moving forward the Storm Secure Underground Pilot Program for electric power with Florida Power & Light. The plan is to move all remaining above-ground neighborhood lateral lines, poles, as well as individual residential and business service connections underground. (Miami Today)

  • Margate Police Department is seeking the public’s help searching for a missing, endangered juvenile. Sarah Ramkhelawan, 16, was last seen leaving her home near the 190 block of Southwest 69th Terrace sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. (WPLG Local 10)
  • A developer is seeking approval to build 245 apartments, 9,404 square feet of commercial space, and 449 parking spaces in a five-story project in Lauderhill. Broward County rent has been soaring during the pandemic, but Lauderhill has been the exception so far. (Subscription: South Florida Business Journal)
  • Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Vickie L. Cartwright asked three administrators to resign or take a leave of absence while they remain under investigation amid mounting pressure from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, according to sources who are familiar with the school administration. She referred to a letter she received from Florida Department of Education’s Office of Safe Schools over a state report that recently led to four Broward County school board members being suspended.
