1. Anthony W. Pereira, the founder and former director of the Brazilian Studies Institute at King’s College of London, has been named director of the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center at FIU. He helped create a joint Ph.D. in international relations with the Institute of International Relations at the University of São Paulo. Pereira lives in Kendall with his wife and has two adult children who live in London. (Miami’s Community News)
2. An investigation is underway in Broward County after shots were fired at Boyd Anderson High School on Sunday night. Three juveniles were taken to the hospital after the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact call Broward County Crime Stoppers. (WSVN)
3. Little Havana’s Calle Ocho has made Time Out’s list of the 33 Coolest Streets in the World, ranked by readers. 27,000 readers were polled around the world for the list. Calle Ocho is the home of iconic destinations including Ball & Chain, Azucar Ice Cream, the city’s oldest costume shop and more. (Time Out Miami)
4. A federal judge on Monday granted former President Trump’s request for a special master to review documents seized by the FBI from his Florida home at Mar-a-Lago and also temporarily halted the Justice Department’s access to the records for its investigation. The U.S. Justice Department objected to the ruling on the grounds that it may impede the FBI’s investigation. (NBC Miami)
5. Segal Trials, a privately held network of research sites, in South Florida has announced the first clinical trial to investigate a form of LSD for treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). GAD is a chronic and often debilitating mental health disorder that affects approximately 6% of U.S. adults in their lifetimes. (Miami’s Community News)

- “An Evening with Neil Degrasse Tyson” is being held on Monday, October 3 at 7 p.m. in the Knight Concert Hall. The event is being held by Books & Books, Miami Book Fair, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. - A group of Cuban migrants were stopped Monday morning by U.S. Border Patrol at Haulover Beach. Thirteen men and two women were taken into police custody. (WSVN)
