DORAL PLANT OUTREACH: As results of the county commission race unfold, the new Miami-Dade waste-to-energy incinerator plant, currently set to rise in the City of Doral, may be revised in the future and further community outreach is expected. The Office of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who decided not to veto the commission’s decision to select Doral for the new facility, said she will look for community feedback this fall. “We will definitely be doing community engagement on waste management, with a focus on how we reduce overall waste,” said her chief of staff, Rachel Johnson. “We expect engagement will happen this fall.” Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez, candidate for the District 12 county commission seat, said he would seek to revisit the decision if he wins. Miami Today tried to contact candidate Sophia Lacayo numerous times but there was no answer.

FIU PRESIDENT HUNT: The Florida International University Presidential Search Committee met several times in June and July in closed sessions, which are exempt from Florida’s public meeting law, to continue working with R. William Funk & Associates to conduct interviews in search of the university’s next president.
