Miami Hurricanes have ccornerback depth to absorb Marcus Clarke transfer

The Miami Hurricanes have the depth at cornerback to absorb third-year sophomore Marcus Clarke entering the transfer portal on Friday. Clarke played six games as a true freshman in 2020 and 12 with four starts in 2022. Clarke was expected to be part of the Miami rotation at CB during the 2022 season.

In two seasons with Miami, Clarke finished with 29 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and two interceptions. Miami is deep at CB in 2022. The addition of West Virginia transfer Darryl Porter Jr. created a more difficult path to start at CB for the returnees at the position for Miami in 2022.

Porter and fourth-year junior Tyrique Stevenson are the projected starters for Miami at CB. Veterans Al Blades Jr., Te’Cory Couch, Malik Curtis and D.J. Ivey return for the Miami Hurricanes at CB. Miami also signed CBs Chris Graves, Jaden Harris and Khamauri Rogers at CB in the 2022 recruiting class.

Clarke was a three-star signee with Miami in 2020 who was the 708th ranked player nationally, the 55th CB and 92nd in Florida. Clarke exceeded his ranking in the two years with Miami. Numerous Power Five programs offered Clarke scholarships out of high school. There is no indication which schools Clarke is considering.

If Clarke wants to play in 2022 he will have to quickly enroll at his new schools and petition the NCAA for a waiver. The NCAA has a May 1 deadline for football players to transfer to be eligible to play at their new programs that fall. Clarke has an incredibly tight window with schools on the semester system mostly starting next week.

Florida, State, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, UCF and West Virginia were the other schools at the top of the list for Clarke when he signed with Miami according to Rivals. Those could be the programs to watch before Clarke makes a decision on his transfer destination. Miami has the depth to absorb the Clarke transfer.
