Miami commits Bobby and Robby Washington excel at Gibbons Jamboree

Miami Hurricanes 2023 commits and twin brothers Bobby and Robby Washington were impressive at the Cardinal Gibbons Jamboree on Thursday night as observed by Andrew Ivins of 247 Sports. The Washingtons are playing for Palmetto as seniors after previously lining up for Killian.

Bobby Washington is a three-star prospect in the Class of 2023, the 560th ranked player, 49th linebacker and 98th in Florida in the Class of 2023. Robby Washington is a four-star prospect in 2023 who is the 153rd ranked player, 12th ranked athlete who is projected to play wide receiver and 35th in Florida for 2023.

The Washingtons were the earliest 2023 commits to Miami after interior offensive lineman Antonio Tripp. Bobby is one of three linebackers committed to Miami for 2023 with four-star prospects Raul Aguirre and Malik Bryant. Robby and four-star slot receiver Nathaniel Joseph are the two 2023 projected WR commits.

Joseph and the Washingtons are the only 2023 commits who have grown up in South Florida. Three-star offensive tackle Frankie Tinilau is playing his senior season at Miami LaSalle after moving to South Florida earlier this year. Ivins summarized the performances of the Washingtons.

Robby Washington impresses as does Bobby Washington

Robby Washington quickly worked his way into the spotlight after he returned a kickoff  80-plus yards…He showed Thursday that  can generate chunk plays… That type of playmaking ability was on full display against Cardinal Gibbons when he turned what should have been a five-yard slant into a 64-yard score.”

Washington lined up on the short side of the field. He cut inside…and was met instantly by a pair of tacklers. Instead of hitting the turf…Washington managed to slip away and then turn on the jets down the sidelines for six points.

As for Robby’s twin brother, three-star linebacker Bobby Washington, he too found a way to leave his mark on the preseason event. After a Chaminade-Madonna Prep run bounced outside, Bobby came literally 40 yards across the field and absolutely leveled the ball carrier as he lowered his shoulder and made contact at full speed.

That hit had the sidelines buzzing, but Bobby’s killer-like instincts didn’t fade there. Later on in the night against Cardinal Gibbons he was flagged for roughing the passer after he essentially tee’d off on UCF quarterback commit Dylan Rizik.

Bobby, who is also committed to the local Hurricanes, will eventually need to learn when to pull up and not take penalties, but it was encouraging to see him play a smash-mouth brand of football. We’ll add that he looked noticeably longer/bigger than he did as a junior at Miami Killian. That’s also encouraging if you cheer for Miami.”

Miami needs to continue adding playmakers, particularly at LB. The LB for Miami over the past couple of seasons has been inconsistent. Aguirre, Bryant and Washington are at least the best LB class for Miami since Zach McCloud, Michael Pinckney and Shaq Quarterman signed in 2016.

Robby was a versatile player for Killian in 2021. In 10 games, Robby had 24 carries for 174 yards and four TDs, 19 receptions for 515 yards and nine TDs and 313 yards in kick returns. The ability to return kicks will be an asset for Miami. The Washingtons have helped set the foundation for the 2023 Miami class.
