Miami Jury Awards $8 Million to Estate of Driver in Head-On Collison
A jury awarded more than $8 million to the estate of a woman who died in a motor-vehicle accident in Miami.
On May 25, 2020, plaintiff’s decedent Idomo Akamune, 57, a pharmacist, was driving on Northeast 54th Street, in Miami. Her car was involved in a head-on collision with a sport utility vehicle that was being driven by Jamar McFarlane, who had crossed the roadway’s centerline. Akamune suffered a fatal injury. McFarlane was arrested at the scene of the accident, and a test, performed within hours of the accident, revealed a blood-alcohol concentration greater than the legal limit.
