Miami

Miami Marlins vs Cincinnati Reds – July 25, 2022

A match up of young lefties is taking place tonight at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati will be sending Nick Lodolo to the mound to face off against last year’s rookie of the year runner up Trevor Rogers for Miami. The Reds are coming off of a series win against the Cardinals while the Marlins took two of three from the Pirates over the weekend. First pitch is set for 6:40pm.

Starting Lineups

Here are the lineups for tonight’s contest:

Starting Pitchers

Nick Lodolo

The rookie left-hander will be looking to rebound from his last outing where he struggled with his control, giving up five runs in 2.0 innings while walking three batters and hitting another three.

Lefties haven’t gotten many chances to face Nick Lodolo this year, but when they have they’ve done very little, going 2-15 with three walks. Right-handed hitters, though, have put up MVP-caliber numbers against him as they’ve hit .340 and slugged .557 against him.

Trevor Rogers

After being an All-Star last year and finishing second to Jonathan India in the rookie of the year voting, Trevor Rogers is experiencing the old sophomore slump as his ERA has more than doubled while watching his home run rate triple, walk rate go up, and strikeout rate plummet.

Rogers has been a very different pitcher on the road than he has been at home. On the road his ERA is 3.95 and he’s given up just three home runs in 43.1 innings. At home his ERA is 7.08 and he’s given up eight home runs. When on the road he’s walked 24 batters with just 32 strikeouts as he’s just been able to walk a fine line to keep runs off of the board outside of Miami.

Lefties haven’t gotten too many chances to face him this season, but when they have they haven’t found too much success, posting a .671 OPS against him thanks to plenty of walks, but not too much hitting. Right-handed hitters are finding a lot more success against him, showing off a good average, walk rate, and ability to hit for some power.

News and Notes

Cam Collier signs for $5M

The Cincinnati Reds officially signed 1st round pick Cam Collier for a bonus of $5M. Cincinnati has now signed 14 of their 22 draft picks.

No international draft, Qualifying offers are staying

Today was the final day for MLB and the MLBPA to either agree on an international draft or not. They did not. That means that the qualifying offer will remain in place and teams can lose draft picks or be pushed back in the draft for certain types of signings of free agents. Had the two sides come to an agreement by today the qualifying offer would have gone away.
