3 Hot Designers Making Their Mark in Miami

Alizee Brion

Light On White Design Studio

As the name of her studio indicates, Alizee Brion’s period-bridging interiors are illuminated by swaths of natural light.

“The core of my work is a belief that a well-designed space has a positive influence on a person’s well-being,” she said. “To achieve that, we embrace the life force of natural light and the shapes, materials and textures that come from the earth. That’s why natural stone is a big part of my work.”

Her international architectural and interior design studio, which won a first-place 2019 ASID Design Excellence Award for a Fort Lauderdale workspace/office, has done projects throughout South Florida, as well as in London, Paris, New York and the Bahamas, to name a few. “I love to mix contemporary furnishings and artworks with antiques that have modern lines,” said Ms. Brion, who established her studio in 2016. “It’s what makes our projects truly unique and quite different from most of the design work in Miami.”

Ms. Brion, who is 34, recently completed architecture and interior design work on a Romanesque-style family estate in Tuscany, Italy, that features five towers designed as independent guest suites connected by walls that encircle the main house.

“Everything was designed to exist alongside and celebrate nature, and every material used comes from nature,” said Ms. Brion, who was born in Paris. “The elements are either structural or functional and barely decorative, instead finding beauty in roughness, in age, in patina and in imperfection.”

In Miami Beach, she’s working on a new-construction residence slated to open at the end of 2023 that she describes as “hyper-contemporary, with an almost minimalist vibe. Out-of-the-box spatial layouts and unexpected furniture shapes run throughout the house.”

Her new limited-edition custom furniture collection, which is made entirely of marble, is an ode to the beauty of natural materials.

“It toes the line between furniture and sculpture and reflects my ethos of collectible design,” she said.

Ms. Brion, who has a bachelor’s degree in architecture and art and a master’s degree in architecture, each from Columbia University, and worked with Philippe Starck before opening her own studio, has a multidisciplinary approach.

“I became fascinated by the way that Starck designs everything from the bones of the space right down to the custom furnishings in the tiniest detail,” she said. “That’s how we approach every project at Light On White. The architecture, the interiors, the furnishings, the artwork and styling all have equal importance.”

Her mission, she added, is to design interiors “that will last, that have soul, that will patina over time and become more beautiful.”
