The Baltimore Orioles have been on quite the run lately, putting themselves in the heart of the discussion about which teams could potentially grab an American League Wild Card spot. With the recent uptick in the overall record, could the Orioles be buyers at the MLB trade deadline … and could a Miami Marlins pitcher be a trade target for the O’s?
Baltimore Orioles trade rumors: Is the team looking to acquire Miami Marlins pitcher Pablo López at the MLB trade deadline?
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com in this article, the Baltimore Orioles could well be trying to land Pablo López from the Miami Marlins in a deal. Feinsand says in the article that, “There has been a lot of chatter” about the Orioles coveting the 26-year-old right-hander and adding him to the rotation.
However, Feinsand adds that he is not saying that the Marlins would trade López, who had a 2.91 ERA/3.60 FIP/1.071 WHIP in 17 starts this season covering 99.0 innings (heading into Tuesday’s action). López has developed one of the best changeups in MLB today and he talked to us about what it took to make the pitch such a weapon.
The Marlins dealing López would be a bit of a shocker and would likely take quite a haul to land him, considering he is not only a mainstay of the Miami rotation but also won’t become a free agent until the 2025 season. However, Feinsand believes that the Orioles are not “going to be dealing for rentals, that’s for sure,” meaning Baltimore isn’t just looking at making a run at the postseason this year, but for years to come as well.
Also in the article, Feinsand warns, “Baltimore doesn’t have to necessarily trade top prospects to be a buyer, though.”
Will the Baltimore Orioles make a splash at the trade deadline? Could they make a run at a pitcher like López? One thing the Orioles have taught baseball fans already this season is to not count them out of anything just yet.
