Here are the top stories today in Miami:
1. Miami Spa Months is back from now through August 31 at world-class hotels around the South Florida. Deals include up to 50% off regular prices on select treatments at 35 spas and prices are 3 tiered, running from $109 to $139 to $199 depending on the treatment. (CBS Miami)
2. A Broward County man lost one of his hands after it was blown off by fireworks in Lauderdale Lakes. Authorities responded to a call regarding a firework incident around the 4400 block of North State Road 7 just after 1 a.m. on Saturday. (WSVN)
3. The Miami Marlins have fired Gary Denbo, who was the team’s vice president of player development and scouting. The move happened earlier this week. Derek Jeter hired Denbo when he first came to Miami and left in February. (ESPN)
4. The victory of left-wing Colombian presidential candidate Gustavo Petro in a June runoff election has Miami preparing for a wave of buyers from Latin America as the wealthy seek to move investments. Colombian buyers represented 12% of international real estate transactions in South Florida in May, according to Miami Association of Realtors. (The Real Deal)
5. Police evacuated the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office after someone called in a bomb threat on Friday. According to Miami-Dade County police, around 10:30 a.m., a caller stated a bomb was at the defender’s office, located at 1320 NW 14th Street. Everyone was evacuated while the building was searched. - Zilch, a London-based FinTech company with U.S. headquarters in Brickell, revealed it secured an additional $50 million in funding in its recent series C financing round. (Subscription: South Florida Business Journal)
- The Ocean Drive Association, in partnership with the City of Miami Beach, will host fireworks and a free patriotic concert with a full orchestra on the Fourth of July on Monday, July 4 at 8:30 p.m. (Twitter)
- Paramedics rescued two kittens from a mobile home fire that displaced 10 people on Friday night, according to Miami Fire Rescue. The fire happened at around 8:15 p.m. at a mobile home on Southwest 69th Avenue in the Flagami neighborhood. (WPLG Local 10)
