Miami football trending for 5-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne

The Miami football team is trending for five-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne. Less than a month after the most recent crystal ball for Wayne was logged for Georgia, 247 Sports National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman and Steve Wiltfong their Director of Football Recruiting both logged crystal balls for Wayne to Miami.

Wayne is the 30th ranked player, fifth edge rusher and ninth in Florida out of IMG Academy in the Class of 2023. Inside the U writer, David Lake logged the first crystal ball for Wayne to Miami in December. In addition to Georgia and Miami, Alabama, LSU, Michigan State and Oregon are all high on Wayne’s list.

Wayne left his hometown school, Tacoma Lincoln to play for IMG in his senior season. Wayne had 44 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and nine sacks plus 18 receptions for 269 yards and five touchdowns receiving for Lincoln last season. Wayne is projected as a future NFL second-round draft pick by Chris Singletary of 247 Sports.

Once Wayne can focus solely on defense, he has an exceptionally high ceiling. Wayne would provide the Miami football program with three elite edge rushers in the last two classes. Miami signed top 15 edge rushers Cyrus Moss and Nyjalik Kelly in the 2022 class. Mario Cristobal wants more physicality on the line of scrimmage.

Miami has been loading up on improving their defensive line since Cristobal was hired in December. In addition to signing Kelly and Moss in the 2022 freshman class, Miami added transfers Mitchell Agude from UCLA and Akheem Mesidor from West Virginia who are the projected starting edge rushers in 2022.

Wayne would be the highest ranked commit to Miami for 2023 surpassing quarterback Jaden Rashada who commited to the Hurricanes on Sunday. Miami currently has the 31st ranked class nationally. Several recruits annoucing their commitments this week could push Miami into the top 20 for 2023.
