Miami QB commit Jaden Rashada denies NIL report
New Miami quarterback commitment Jaden Rashada used his Twitter account Monday to deny a report he made a pledge to the Hurricanes after agreeing to an unconfirmed $9.5 million NIL deal.
On3 quoted California-based sports lawyer Michael Caspino Sunday night saying Rashada, the No. 7 ranked quarterback and the No. 45 overall recruit in the 2023 247Sports Composite rankings, “left millions on the table” to sign with the Hurricanes over the rival Florida Gators.
Rashada was set to announce his college choice on June 18 before postponing it to Sunday so he could take his fifth and final official visit to Miami last week. Before his visit to Miami, a source close to Rashada told The Athletic that Florida was his likely destination.
Miami booster John Ruiz told The Athletic, and shared on Twitter late Sunday night, that he had no conversations with Caspino regarding Rashada’s recruitment. Caspino confirmed Ruiz’s statement on Twitter.
The NCAA has said it is against its rules for prospective recruits to be induced to pick a college based on potential NIL deals. Sources told The Athletic on Sunday night that Rashada had not signed any NIL contracts tying him to Miami.
“We don’t have a deal in place as of this moment,” Caspino said Monday. “He has committed to the University of Miami to play football there. Everyone’s saying we have a deal in place. We do not have a deal in place.”
Asked how soon an NIL deal could be reached, Caspino said, “Within probably a couple of weeks.”
