MDC North Campus to Host Miami-Dade County Adopt-a-Tree Program

Miami, June 7, 2022Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will host the first Adopt-a-Tree give-away event of the 2022 season on Sunday, June 12. Miami-Dade homeowners will have the opportunity to get two free trees courtesy of the Miami-Dade County Adopt-a-Tree program.

Miami-Dade single-family or duplex homeowners are eligible to receive two FREE trees per year, even if they have adopted trees in past years. Tree quantities are limited and will be given away on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Residents who are eligible to adopt FREE trees will can choose from a variety of tree species, including mango, longan, carambola, Mexican alvaradoa and pigeon plum.

Also at this event, Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department will be exchanging up to two non-high efficiency showerheads and three incandescent light bulbs for high-efficiency showerheads and compact fluorescent light bulbs absolutely for free. Residents must bring their old showerheads and incandescent light bulbs to receive the new ones.

The Adopt-a-Tree program was created in 2001 to help increase the tree canopy of Miami-Dade County.  Trees reduce air-conditioning costs by providing shade, while a good landscape improves a home’s appearance. Trees also help increase a property’s real estate value and reduce flooding by absorbing excess rain water. Trees also help to remove tons of carbon dioxide from the air every year. Carbon dioxide is considered to be a factor affecting climate change.
