NDSU Falls at No. 5 Miami


CORAL GABLES, Fla. –  The North Dakota State baseball team came up short at No. 5 Miami, 16-1, on Saturday night at Mark Light Field.

The Hurricanes (34-12) got off to a fast start in the opening frame plating six runs on six hits, including three home runs to grab an early 6-0 lead. Brock Anderson answered for NDSU (25-15) in the second frame with an RBI single to right field to make the score 6-1.

Miami cracked the game open in the third inning adding on four runs to stretch its advantage to 10-1 after Jacob Burke blasted a two RBI single into left field. Joey Danielson took over for the Bison on the mound and held the contest scoreless over the next three innings. Miami then put the game away adding on four more runs in the seventh to stretch its lead to 14-1 after Edgardo Villegas scored on a passed ball. NDSU went on to drop game two of the series, 16-1.

NDSU connected on eight hits as a team, including two from Logan Williams.

Cade Feeney (5-3) made his 11th appearance of the season and tossed two strikeouts over 2.2 innings. Danielson also made his ninth appearance of the season and fired a team-high three strikeouts over 3.1 innings of work.

NDSU will conclude its series at Miami tomorrow. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. CT
