Morgan State Adds Miami Dade College transfer Khalil Turner

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 20, 2022) – Miami Dade College transfer Khalil Turner has signed to play basketball for Morgan State University, head coach Kevin Broadus has announced.

“Khalil brings a dimension of versatility that we have not had since Troy Baxter,” said Broadus. “His ability to change shots and block shots at the rim will make us a much better defensive team. He can play multiple positions and guard everywhere on the court.”

“Miami Dade did a tremendous job helping him prepare for this jump back to Division 1. Our expectations for Khalil are very high and we are happy to have him.”

Turner, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound swingman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania played at Miami Dade College under head coach Jorge Fernandez, where he started in 24 games as a redshirt sophomore for the Sharks during the 2021-22 season.

Turner averaged 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 blocks for the season and was named First Team All Southern Conference. He shot 39.7 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from three, and 67.3 percent from the free throw line.

Prior to Miami Dade College, Turner also played at Rider University in New Jersey and Palm Beach State College.

As a freshman, Turner played sparingly at Rider University averaging 0.5 points a game. He transferred to Palm Beach State College in 2020 where he averaged 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds a game and was named First Team All-Southern Conference. He was granted a second sophomore campaign due to the COVID-shortened season but did not return to the Panthers because they moved down to Division II.

For his high school career, Turner earned All-State in his final two years at Sankofa Freedom Academy, including a Class A First Team honor as a senior. He led Sankofa to the first State Championship in the school’s 10-year history.

Turner joins an MSU team that returns veteran guards De’Torrion Ware and Malik Miller. The Bears lost four seniors Lagio Grantsaan (10.6 ppg), Keith McGee (9.0 ppg), Sherwyn Devonish-Prince (6.5 ppg) and Seventh Woods (4.7).

In his third season at MSU, Broadus led the Bears to a 13-15 overall record, and placed fourth in the MEAC standings with a 7-6 record while advancing to the MEAC Tournament semifinals game. The previous season the team made it to the MEAC championship game.
