North Miami JCC shooting suspect has extensive criminal history

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – In the days since Carl Watts was arrested in connection to a brutal murder, two families have come forward saying he also was in abusive relationships with their loved ones.

One of those women is still reported missing.  The other was found murdered.

Dulcinea Harris Everett remembers holding her daughter in her final moments after she said Watts, her son in-law, shot and killed and her.

“I had her hand like this because she is my daughter,” Everett said.

But she said 24 hours earlier, her daughter, Shandell Harris, came to her home, rushing inside to try and get away from Watts.

“She gets undressed, and she had stab wounds and she was wrapped up,” Everett said. “He did this. I said oh you are not going back out there. Call 911.”

The following day, Everett said Watts tried to convince his wife not to press charges after he allegedly stabbed her.

She refused the offer, and seconds later, Everett said he opened fire on his 30-year-old wife while she was at her daughters swim practice at the JCC in North Miami.

Local 10 News looked into Watts’ criminal history and found he was also the person of interest in his girlfriend Trukita Scott’s disappearance in June of 2014.

“Not knowing everyday what’s going on, hoping to see her again, getting leads here and there but not really panning out to nothing,” said Charles Scott, Trukita’s father.

Lashon Jones spoke to Local 10 News Roy Ramos, saying her sister, 26-year-old Vickie Simmons, dated Watts in 2009.

It is during that time Simmons was found dead at a northeast Miami-Dade motel.

Her killer was never caught, leaving Jones to believe that Watts may to be blame.

“She wanted to leave, but it is just like he doesn’t take no for an answer,” Jones said.

Miami-Dade police said its cold case team is revisiting Simmons case from 2009.

As for Scott’s disappearance, detectives said there was not enough evidence to charge him.
