Ohio State hoops set to hire former Miami (OH) head coach Jack Owens

It’s going to be an awfully interesting offseason for the Ohio State basketball program. It lost a ton of guys to graduation and the NBA draft process, had two assistant coaches move on hired to other programs, and is actively working the transfer portal to keep things moving in the right direction.

One of the multiple things that have to be addressed has been. According to a report originally from Jeff Goodman of Stadium, the Buckeyes are hiring former Miami (OH) head coach Jack Owens to the staff to replace Tony Skinn, who has departed to be an assistant coach at Maryland.

Owens is just 44-years old and compiled a 70-83 record as the head coach of the Redhawks before being let go at the end of this past season. He spent five years in Oxford and led the team to a winning record in 2020-2021.

Prior to becoming the head coach of Miami, Owens spent nine years as an assistant with Matt Painter’s Purdue program. He is familiar with the Big Ten and Midwest being an Indianapolis native.

There’s still one assistant coaching position still open at Ohio State after this move. Chris Holtmann must still find a replacement for Ryan Pedon, who was hired to be the head coach at Illinois State.
