Men’s Tennis Blanks Miami In Big Road Win


CORAL GABLES, FLA.—Senior Henry Lieberman won the clinching singles match as the University of North Carolina men’s tennis team picked up one of its biggest wins of the season, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at 24th-ranked Miami.

Lieberman beat Oren Vasser in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles in the clinching match in the shutout win.

Logan Zapp (6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 singles) and Mac Kiger (6-4, 6-1 at No. 3) also posted straight-set victories in singles for the victorious Tar Heels. The singles matches of Brian Cernoch and Benjamin Sigouin went unfinished.

Carolina started the afternoon by winning the doubles point. The No. 8-ranked duo of Cernoch and Kiger beat Benjamin Hannestad and Dan Martin, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles. Sigouin and Peter Murphy clinched the doubles point by beating Martin Katz and Bojan Jankulovski, 6-3, at No. 3.

The win improved the 31st-ranked Tar Heels to 7-5 overall this season and 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Miami fell to 12-3, 1-2 in the ACC.

Carolina will return to action on Sunday at Florida State.
