New Telephone Area Code 645 Added On Top Of 305 & 786 To Meet Demand – The Next Miami

The North American Numbering Plan Administrator has assigned Miami with a new area code to help satisfy the high level of demand in the fast-growing area.

Miami’s new area code is 645, the administrator announced. From now on, new telephone lines in Miami and the Keys will be assigned with either a 305, 786, or 645 number.

“As Miami-Dade and the Florida Keys continue to attract new residents from all across our country and around the world, the new 645 area code will ensure that the demand for new lines is met,” said Florida Public Service Commission Chairman Andrew Giles Fay.

“The increasing customer demand is a testament to South Florida’s growing economy,” Fay added.

Miami was on track to run out of 305 and 786 numbers by the first quarter of 2024, according to a petition on behalf of Florida’s telecommunications industry.

Miami last got a new area code in 1998, when 786 was added.
