Miami football serious chance for 5-star OL Francis Mauigoa

The Miami football program is one of four teams with a serious chance to sign five-star offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa according to On3.Com. A report on Sunday by 247 Sports stated that Mauigoa is expected to include Miami in his top 10 schools. Mauigoa told 247 he likes Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal a lot.

USC has the best chance to receive a commitment from Mauigoa according to On3 at 53.5 percent. Miami has the second-best chance at 17.6 percent. Alabama is third at 15.9 and Oregon third at 12.3. The On3 consensus rankings have Mauigoa eighth in the Class of 2023. Mauigoa is the highest-ranked player for IMG Academy.

Chad Simmons the Director of Recruiting for On3 expects USC, Miami, Alabama and Oregon to be the four schools to have a chance to sign Mauigoa. If the Miami football program can gain a commitment from Mauigoa he would be a huge boost to an offensive line that has not signed a highly ranked OL in recent signing classes.

Miami signed three-star OL Anez Cooper and Matthew McCoy in the Class of 2022. Upgrading the talent at the line of scrimmage will be an emphasis with Cristobal as head coach. The Miami DL has 2021 five-star, DL Leonard Taylor. Miami also signed highly ranked DL Nyjalik Kelly and Cyrus Moss in the Class of 2022.

The OL will be a priority for Miami in the 2023 Class. Miami could lose all or most of their 2022 starting OL. Miami has offered scholarships to 30 offensive tackles and 21 other OL in the Class of 2023. Three of the OTs are strongly considering Miami. Mauigoa is the sole five-star OL Miami seems likely to strongly consider Miami.

Mauigoa has already taken visits to USC, Oregon and Miami and is expected to unofficial visits to LSU March 1, Florida March 5 and either Alabama or Georgia on March 10. Unscheduled official visits will happen later this year. The recruitment of Mauigoa is expected to go the distance according to Sports Illustrated.
