MATCH PREVIEW: Inter Miami CF to Face Charleston Battery on Tuesday

Inter Miami CF will play its second Breeze Airways Carolina Challenge Cup match on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. ET, taking on the hosts, USL Championship side Charleston Battery. The match at Patriots Point in Charleston, South Carolina will be streamed live in the Inter Miami App for local South Florida fans within a 100 mile radius of Miami.

Charleston enters the match following a win in its first outing of the tournament, taking down MLS expansion side Charlotte FC 1-0 on Saturday night. The winning goal in the match was scored by 25-year-old American forward Aidan Apodaca, who signed for the team in January. 

Charleston is led by newly appointed head coach Conor Casey, a former MLS standout and U.S. Men’s national team forward. In 2021, the team finished sixth in the USL Championship Eastern Conference Atlantic Division, amassing 37 points in 32 matches. The team is returning key contributors from 2021, including its second-leading scorer last season, 21-year-old forward Nicque Daley. 

Inter Miami, meanwhile, will enter the match coming off of a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew in the tournament opener. The team took the lead through an Ariel Lassiter goal assisted by Gonzalo Higuaín, but a late equalizer by Columbus resulted in the teams splitting the points.

Earlier this preseason, Inter Miami faced three MLS opponents, taking on the Crew, D.C. United and CF Montréal, as well as one Peruvian opponent, defeating Club Universitario de Deportes 4-0 in the team’s first international friendly at DRV PNK Stadium.
