Where Miami football stands with 5-star OL Josh Conerly

Upgrading the talent and development on the offensive line is a priority for the Miami football program. The hiring of Mario Cristobal as head coach and Alex Mirabal as the OL coach is expected to improve the play for Miami upfront. Miami is strongly recruiting five-star 2022 OL Josh Conerly.

Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and Washington are the finalists to sign Conerly in addition to the Miami football program. The Huskies and Wolverines are listed as the co-favorites to sign Conerly by both 247 Sports and Rivals.Com. Conerly is the 15th ranked player, second OT and top recruit in Washington in 2022.

What could work in favor of Miami is the Hurricanes hiring of Josh Gattis as offensive coordinator from Michigan this week. Washington has the benefit of being the most prominent Power Five program in the home state for the 6-5, 283 pound, Rainier Beach star. Miami did not offer Conerly until December.

Cristobal set the foundation for recruiting Conerly when he was at Oregon. Conerly would be the highest player Miami signs in the 2022 Class. Cristobal being a former OL and having coached the position and Mirabal on the Hurricanes staff should help Miami in the recruitment of Conerly. Conerly’s recruitment is summarized by 247.

MIAMI HURRICANES

“Miami was the most recent school to offer Conerly, doing so in December, shortly after the hiring of Mario Cristobal to run his alma mater’s program. And while the Hurricanes are the last to emerge in his recruitment, the presence of Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal shows the impression they’ve made on him when they were at Oregon.

Conerly’s last official visit he took prior to the dead period was to Miami and he raved about his time there. That said, the ‘Canes have a lot of ground to make up but Cristobal has them in the mix largely because of his experience as an offensive line coach.”

Brandon Huffman wrote up the summary for all six finalists for Conerly. Cristobal has quickly made an impact recruiting for the Miami football program. Eight of the Hurricanes 14 2022 signees have pledged to Miami since Cristobal was hired in early December. Miami signed two OL on National Signing Day last week.

Three stars, Matthew McCoy and Anez Cooper were signed to a 2022 Miami class that previously did not have any OL. Conerly would instantly become the highest-rated talent on the Miami OL. Miami has three returning starters on the OL in 2022. If Miami signs Conerly he could challenge to be a starter as a true freshman
