Penguins Set to Host Miami, Visit West Virginia

The Youngstown State women’s tennis team hosts Miami (Ohio) in its home opener at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday and then travels to take on West Virginia on Sunday at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts.

First serve is set for 4 p.m. against the Redhawks and for 3 p.m. against the Mountaineers.

YSU, Miami and WVU are all 2-2 in spring play so far.

The Penguins were last in action this past weekend as they travelled to Las Vegas for three matches. YSU beat UTEP 5-2 and Weber State 4-3. The Penguins lost to UNLV 4-3 to finish the weekend.

The Penguins swept the weekly Horizon League women’s tennis awards after their strong performance last weekend. Elisa Rigazio earned the honor of singles player of the week while Julia Marko and Cecilia Rosas were named doubles team of the week.

Rigazio won all three of her singles matches this weekend, improving her overall singles record to 6-0 in spring play. Marko and Rosas were 3-0 in doubles during the team’s trip to Las Vegas.

YSU played the Redhawks for the first time last season, losing 5-2. The Penguins have competed against WVU four times in program history and have yet to earn a win. YSU suffered a touch 4-3 setback last March at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.

At home in 2020-21, YSU was 10-3.
