Nine transfer portal options that can help Miami in 2022

The Miami Hurricanes have had plenty of success with finding and developing impactful players via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

In the month of December, Mario Cristobal added his first transfer portal player to UM with defensive lineman Jake Lichtenstien announcing he will be playing for the Hurricanes in 2022.

In 2021, Miami added wide receiver Charleston Rambo, who went on to break UM’s single-season receiving yards and reception records. The Hurricanes also added cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who was UM’s top player at that position.

In 2020, UM landed four impact players in quarterback D’Eriq King, edge rusher Quincy Roche, kicker Jose Borregales, and right tackle Jarrid Williams.

In 2019, Miami added defensive end Jaelan Phillips, safety Bubba Bolden, and wide receiver K.J. Osborn.

New Miami coach Mario Cristobal will look to continue that trend this offseason with UM having plenty of room to attract around five to eight transfers.

This article looks to highlight some of the transfer portal players that would provide a boost to the Hurricanes in 2022.

When projecting out Miami’s 2022 personnel, there are a handful of positions of need that the Hurricanes should target in the portal specifically: wide receiver, offensive line, defensive end, defensive tackle, linebacker, and cornerback.

During his introductory press conference at Miami, new head coach Mario Cristobal made it clear that he understands the importance of talent acquisition.

“You have to always elevate the caliber of athlete you have on the roster. In college football, talent acquisition and personnel is the most critical factor. Every single player and every single person in the building has a role. There is certain criteria we look for at every position and it isn’t always going to be perfect, but you want to get yourself to a level where you are hitting on those criteria because it is a proven blueprint. Certain size/speed combinations with flexibility, balance and body control, combined with the right heart and right mindset and right work ethic, leads to tremendous success. We have really good evaluators, recruiting coordinators, and personnel people here that have done a good job and there is a lot to build upon that as well.

“There is some really talented guys on the roster. There is some guys where it is our job to develop. It is our job to bring a Power Five, super sized development program to maximize their potential so they get out of it what they came here to do. At the same time we have to bring in as much talent as possible. The best way to get your team better is to introduce competition and introduce it every day and in every way. That cannot be a threatening thing. That has to be welcomed by the players and the staff. It is my job to challenge coaches, graduate assistants, and analysts and the only way to do that is through competition and that will be at the core of everything we do.”
