Woman recognizes brother as serial thief in Miami-Dade County
MIAMI – A woman told police officers she wouldn’t be surprised if her troubled brother was the thief they were searching for in Miami-Dade County. According to a police report, evidence would later show she was right.
Her brother Daniel Huertas was at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday facing nine charges in two pending cases — including one that was related to domestic violence.
Huertas, 38, also had a pending warrant case for a probation violation.
According to an arrest report, detectives found surveillance video showing Huertas on May 22 at a Chevron gas station with a stolen credit card and a stolen red Nissan Rogue sports utility vehicle.
Detectives believe Huertas broke into a residential property, and into two cars to steal a wallet with credit cards and a driver’s license, stole an electric bicycle nearby, and kidnapped his sister and stole her car.
Huertas has been at TGK without bond since May 23. The charges have been piling up since.
For the domestic violence case, Huertas is facing charges of carjacking, strongarm robbery, kidnapping, battery on a person 65 years old or older, and battery.
In a second case, Huertas faced charges of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, two counts of burglary of an occupied, and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
