Jalen Ramsey encouraged by time with new Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver

The Miami Dolphins faced an identity crisis with different defensive coordinators in each of the last three seasons. After mutually parting ways with Vic Fangio at the end of last season, Miami signed Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach and defensive line coach Anthony Weaver to run the unit.
While early in the process, Weaver has the approval of seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
“It’s been fun so far,” Ramsey said on Wednesday. “A lot of communication between us two. I think he’ll let me show my full skill set once again this year, so it should be fun.”
Ramsey rarely moved around the defense in 2023, playing 533 of his 585 snaps at boundary cornerback. The three-time First-Team All-Pro played just 14 snaps at slot cornerback after averaging 235 snaps there throughout the previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.
It’s important to consider that Ramsey played just 10 games last season due to a knee injury. That said, his 35 snaps lined up in the box were still 13 fewer than when he played just nine games in 2019. Before arriving in Miami, he averaged 102 snaps in the box over the three previous seasons.
“Those are things that I’ve done throughout my whole career besides last year,” Ramsey said of lining up in different spots. “Last year was the only time I didn’t follow and only stayed on one side of the field. So last year was kind of a different year for me rather than this being different.
“This is like back to what I do, back to where I thrive and made an impact and have a lot of fun playing the game.”
Ramsey’s first season with the Dolphins included five passes defended and three interceptions. Opposing quarterbacks completed just 56 percent of passes when targetting him, but feels his role will grow with Weaver calling the shots.
“I think he’s a good hire,“ Ramsey said. “I think he’ll put guys in position to do really good things and show their whole skill sets. That’s fun – it makes the game fun.”
