Miami-Dade Clerk to wed 20 couples on Valentine’s Day at historic courthouse

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Love is most certainly in the air this Valentine’s Day and 20 couples celebrated their big day Wednesday by getting married in unique fashion.

The services were conducted by the Miami-Dade Clerk of Courts Marriage License Bureau on the historic Miami-Dade County Courthouse steps.

The Miami-Dade County Courthouse, a National Register of Historic Sites entrant built in 1928, with Miami-Dade Clerk and Comptroller Juan Fernandez-Barquin officiating.

The soon-to-be newlyweds will exchange nuptial vows on the courthouse steps in Miami a short walk from the new courthouse site, County Hall, HistoryMiami, the Main Library and the county’s downtown transportation nexus linking the Metrorail to the Metromover.

The first of two public ceremonies is to begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Fernandez-Barquin’s Office is advising members of the media covering the event to arrive at least 15 minutes early.

The ceremonies were complimentary to the 20 participating couples, but the newlyweds were still required to apply for and obtain a marriage license prior to registering for the group ceremony event.

Florida has a mandatory three-day waiting period for Florida residents, so those couples were asked to obtain their licenses by Friday to participate in Wednesday’s ceremony.
