It’s best to avoid snap assessments in the preseason, but that opening 45 minutes at the Cotton Bowl was probably a decent account of where the Herons are at this moment in time.

The problem, however, is defensive. Jesus Ferreira scored the only goal within just three minutes after being allowed far too much time on the edge of the Miami box. 

If the Herons are to become a genuine challenger in MLS, they need to address their defensive lapses.
