Xavier Restrepo can pass milestones and break records in Miami football bowl game
Xavier Restrepo finished the regular season second in the ACC with 74 receptions and 993 receiving yards and 13th with five receiving touchdowns. Restrepo is five receptions behind the single-season Miami football record set by Charleston Rambo in 2021. Restrepo would also be the first Miami 1,000-yard receiver since Rambo.
Rambo set the Miami single-season records with 79 receptions and 1,172 yards with seven TDs in 2021. Restrepo was on pace to eclipse both records set by Rambo. A three-game slide versus Virginia, North Carolina State and Florida State with six receptions for 81 yards by Restrepo made the yardage record likely out of reach.
Restrepo ended his slump in a major way with 14 receptions for 310 yards and a TD in the last two games combined versus Louisville and Boston College. Restrepo needs 180 receiving yards in the Miami bowl game to break Rambo’s single-season receiving yardage record. The reception record is more attainable.
Rambo accomplished his record in 12 games. Restrepo accumulated all of his stats in 11 regular season games after not recording a reception versus Florida State. If he chooses to return in 2024, Restrepo would have a chance to break the Miami football career records for receptions and receiving yards.
Restrepo is currently 11th in Miami history with 120 receptions and 18th with 1,618 receiving yards. Mike Harley holds the Miami career record with 182 receptions. Santana Moss holds the Miami record with 2,547 receiving yards. Another year like 2023 would make Restrepo the Miami career leader in receptions and receiving yards.
Restrepo should be a near lock for setting the single season reception record. Setting the yardage record could be dependent on who plays quarterback for Miami in their bowl game. Miami could be without a scholarship QB for the bowl. Tyler Van Dyke and Jacurri Brown have both been rumored as potentially entering the transfer portal.
