LA and Maui Homes of Late Music Boss Jerry Moss Hit Market
The estate of the late record producer Jerry Moss is selling his 11,700-square-foot Bel-Air mansion for $53 million, plus a 1.4-acre beachfront spread on Maui for another $39 million.
Tina Moss, widow of the A&M Records co-founder and producer of hits by the Police, the Carpenters and Janet Jackson, has listed the Los Angeles home at 362 Copa De Oro Road, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The address for the Hawaii estate containing four houses wasn’t immediately available.
The Bel-Air estate, built in 1937, includes a five-bedroom, 13-bathroom mansion and two guest houses on a 1.8-acre double lot. Moss bought the first lot, with 0.87 acres, in the 1980s for an unknown sum. He bought the 0.94-acre lot next door in 1994 for $3.05 million.
The half-timbered, Tudor-style home has soaring ceilings, original hardwood floors and Venetian plaster. It includes a grand living room with fireplace, gourmet kitchen, breakfast room with oversize windows, formal dining room and a movie theater.
The master bathroom is clad in cream-and-purple marble, with a fireplace, chandelier and large tub, and has an adjacent office.
Outside, the manicured grounds contain a pool surrounded by large stones, giving it the appearance of a natural pond.
Broker Aaron Kirman of AKG Christie’s International Real Estate holds the listing. He says he’s “very bullish” about the Moss estate because it has two flat lots on one of the best streets in Bel-Air.
“If there was ever a house that is going to defy the marketplace, this is one of them,” Kirman told the Journal.
In Hawaii, the Moss estate on Old Makena Road on Maui contains four homes and 148 feet of beach frontage. Tina Moss said her husband bought it when the area had dirt roads and secluded beaches.
Jerry Moss bought a 0.68-acre parcel in 1995 for $2.2 million. Around 2000, he bought the lot next door for an unknown price. He then slowly added homes to what once contained a “funky beach house,” Tina Moss said.
A few years ago, the Mosses renovated the compound, replacing wood siding with smooth stucco and ipe wood.
Brokers Nancy Callahan of Coldwell Banker Island Properties and Paul Stukin of Deep Blue HI hold the listing.
Jerry Moss, who co-founded A&M Records with trumpeter Herb Alpert in the 1960s, married his wife, Tina, in 2019. He died in August, at 88.
In 2000, Moss and Alpert sold Rondor Music, an independent music-publishing company, to
Universal Music Group for $400 million, according to the Journal. This month, Christie’s auctioned part of Moss’ art collection, including pieces by Frida Kahlo and Andy Warhol, for more than $64 million.
