Miller’s Season Mark Highlights Buffs In Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Sophomore Morgan Miller set a new season standard for the University of Colorado women’s golf program, and did it before the fall calendar flipped to November.
 
Miller shot consecutive rounds in the 60s – her sixth and seventh of the season – to lead the Buffaloes through the first 36-holes of the Miami Hurricane Invitational at the Biltmore Golf Course on Monday.
 
In the process, Miller broke her tie with Esther Lee for the most rounds shot in the 60s for Colorado – over an entire season. Miller entered the tournament tied with Lee’s five set in 2014-15. She took sole possession of that record with a 4-under, 68, in the first round and followed that up with a 69 in the second. She will have Tuesday’s final round and at least six spring season tournaments to build on that mark.
 
As a team, Colorado is in eighth place at 5-over, 581. The Buffaloes had a great start, playing as low as 9-under mid-way through the first round, but fell back to finish even. Colorado was in seventh after 18 holes, but dropped one spot into eighth after shooting 5-over in the second round.
 
Host Miami leads the tournament at 20-under, seven strokes ahead of Oklahoma. South Florida is third at 10-under, followed by Texas State (-7) and Augusta (-6).
 
Miller, at 7-under, is tied with two others for third place after two rounds. Miami’s Sara Byrne has a sizeable overall lead at 15-under, including a 63 in the second round. South Florida’s Emma Falcher has a one-stroke edge for second place at 8-under after shooting a pair of 68s.
 
“We got off to a good start but lost the momentum as the day went on,” Colorado head coach Anne Kelly said. “Our bright spot was Morgan who played consistently all day. The team was disappointed with our results overall, we’re determined to play better tomorrow.”
 
Miller was steady to say the least. She had eight birdies and dropped only a single stroke over 36 holes, which came with a bogey on her 16^th hole in the first round. Miller either birdied or made par on her final 20 holes as she has now shot under par in 10 of 14 rounds this fall.
 
Graduate transfer Sabrina Iqbal is tied for 25^th after shooting even, 144, over the first two rounds. In her first action since a top-eight finish at the LPGA Stage Il Q-School 10 days ago, Iqbal recorded her sixth sub-par outing of the fall with a 71 in the first round before carding 73 in the second.
 
Junior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch is tied for 46^th at 5-over, 149. Eidhagen Harrouch was 1-over in the first round, which included a strong back nine where she was 2-under. She shot 4-over, 76, in the second round.
 
Freshman Francesca Sumcad is tied for 55^th at 7-over, 151. She was the lone Buffalo to have a better score in round two than in round one. Sumcad shot 76 over the first 18 holes and followed that up with a 75 in the second round. Classmate Carolyn Fuller, in her third career tournament is at 10-over after shooting consecutive rounds of 77.
 
Colorado will pair with Colorado State and College of Charleston in its final round of the fall season on Tuesday. The group will start between No. 9 and No. 11 with a shotgun start beginning at 6:30 a.m. MT.
