This Vietnamese student was expecting sandy beaches, not cornfields.

All Valerie Do wanted was to lounge on the beach in between classes, but instead she got the Midwest’s best: Corn.

When Do, who hails from Vietnam, applied to Miami University, she wasn’t even aware the state of Ohio existed, let alone that the school wasn’t actually located in the Sunshine State, she admitted on TikTok.

“I thought it was Miami, Florida, and did not realize,” she wrote on the video that has gotten 1.6 million views.

“There are no beaches here, it’s just [a] cornfield and in the middle of nowhere.”

Do, who is a junior now, said she finally realized the school was in the Midwest when she got her acceptance letter. She decided to head to the Buckeye State due to the scholarship offered to her and the business program, she revealed in a follow-up TikTok.

“I love my school, and I love it here,” she said. “Miami has the true American college experience that I was looking for, just like in the movies. I grew up watching movies like ‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘Mean Girls,’ ‘Bring It On,’ ‘Animal House,’ and stuff like that, and Miami has the perfect stuff for me.”

She also remarked on the Midwest hospitality and said she doesn’t feel the need to “change myself.”

The Oxford-based school has around a 15% international student population on its main campus.

Many took to the comments to say they knew other international students who had done the same thing.

“You’re not the only one. There were international students who did this too when I was there years ago!!!” a user named DJ said.

Another wrote: “Whenever I tell people I go to Miami I always get jokes about going to the wrong school.”

“It’s actually a really good school but unfortunately it’s not near a beach!” a user named Jacob assured her.
