Lionel Messi Settles In South Florida With $10.75 Million Mansion
Lionel Messi has bought a mansion in Fort Lauderdale for $10.75 million as the prized MLS superstar solidifies his roots in South Florida since he joined Inter Miami in June.
Messi’s new estate in Fort Lauderdale’s Bay Colony gated community spans over 10,500 square feet with eight bedrooms, 9.5 bathrooms, a three-car garage, and a pool. The waterfront home also includes two boat docks, a spa, a fitness room, and a 1,600-square-foot primary bedroom, per Forbes.
Property taxes on the home are estimated to be $83,400 per year. Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is reportedly worth up to $150 million over two-and-a-half years, putting his career earnings around $1.2 billion in salaries and endorsements.
Messi’s masterful on-field performance led Inter Miami to win the 2023 Leagues Cup, and his presence has significantly impacted demand for team merchandise, ticket sales, and MLS betting activity. The new revenues driven by Messi will support Inter Miami’s plan to build its new $350 million soccer-specific stadium called Miami Freedom Park.
The Argentine soccer legend’s Inter Miami debut also drove 110,000 new sign-ups for MLS Season Pass, the league’s subscription streaming service on Apple TV+.
Samuel and Donna Simpkin of Team Simpkin at real estate agency Compass Florida represented the Messi family in their new Fort Lauderdale home purchase. Team Simpkin also has a deal to be the Official Real Estate Partner of Inter Miami CF.
Miami-based Compass real estate agent Angel Nicolas told FOS in June that Messi’s MLS move would drive a bigger impact on Miami’s local economy than when LeBron James signed with the Miami Heat in 2010. “Messi is more of a worldwide celebrity and is going to attract more of a European crowd than ever before,” Nicolas told FOS.
