Miami football Charlie Strong hiring continued national praise as perfect fit
The Miami football program hiring Charlie Strong as the linebackers coach is continuing to receive praise nationally. Mike Farrell of Rivals.Com named Strong as one of “five former head coaches who need to step up as assistants.” Strong provides Miami with extensive experience as a head coach and defensive coordinator.
Mario Cristobal hired Strong for the Miami football staff for his recruiting prowess as well. Strong knows Florida well as a recruiting. As the former DC for Florida and head coach at Louisville Strong frequently came into South Florida to sign players. Cristobal has been continually praised with the staff he has assembled.
The last month has been particularly impressive. The additions of defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, Strong and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis have provided the Miami football program with an all-star coaching staff. All of the new hires by Cristobal are proven recruiters.
Cristobal improved the Miami 2022 Class from a ranking in the seventies before he was hired to 15th currently. Miami signed its 2022 class before the majority of the current coaching staff was hired. Farrell elaborated on the history Strong brings to Miami and why he’s a “perfect fit” for the Hurricanes.
CHARLIE STRONG: The former head coach at Louisville, Texas and USF is now at The U as the linebackers coach and he’s a perfect fit for the Hurricanes. He’s a fantastic recruiter and knows the state of Florida as well as anyone. He adds to a staff that is already flush with great recruiters.
Strong has a big task to develop a Miami LB corps that has underperformed the last two seasons. The Miami football program needs to improve its development and upgrade the talent at LB. The experience that Strong provides as the LB coach as a former head coach and defensive coordinator should help Miami immediately.
The experience Strong has in different regions of the country should help Miami recruit nationally. With the staff Cristobal has assembled, recruiting in South Florida will become more difficult. Cristobal has already proven he’s a great recruiter as an assistant at Alabama and head coach at Oregon.
