New real estate reality show rumoured to be in the works
With Luxe Listings Sydney becoming one of the big TV hits of the past few years, a new real estate-based reality show is rumoured to be in the works.
According to the Herald Sun, Australia might be in line for its very own version of a Selling Sunset-style show, but there’s also talk the Melbourne-based production might have hit an early snag.
In reality TV every show needs a villain and, despite a pilot already being filled, apparently some of the high-profile agents approached are worried about how that might affect their brand.
The Herald Sun claims that’s seen some current cast members pull out of production of a show described as a “fly-on-the-wall reality” program which looks into “the flashy lifestyles” of agents and “the high-end real estate they are selling”.
The Herald Sun also states the agents involved are being paid $1000 per episode, with the Nine Network said to be behind the program.
It follows on from the success of a steady stream of real estate focused reality TV shows in recent years, including Amazon Prime’s Luxe Listings Sydney, starring Gavin Rubinstein, Simon Cohen, D’Leanne Lewis and Monika Tu.
Over its three seasons, Luxe Listings has catapulted the agents involved to further fame both in Australia and internationally, with Simon Cohen, and Gavin Rubinstein both telling Elite Agent the series has been nothing but positive for their respective brands.
Ahead of the Season 3 premier of Luxe Listings, Monika revealed to Elite Agent that she had been invited to join the inaugural season of the hit Amazon Prime TV show but said no as she was worried it could focus on creating drama between the agents, rather than showing the ‘real life’ hard work that goes into selling luxury property in the harbour city.
But Monika said she soon changed her mind when she watched the first season and joined the cast for Season 2.
“This show, Luxe Listings Sydney, was phenomenal. We have a lot of fun,” she said.
“There is a level of drama but we work together and we are very friendly with each other.
“It’s not like other reality shows. It actually presents the Sydney luxury market to the world.
“The show covers different angles. Not all real estate agents are just competitive and aggressive, we have heart as well.
“It is a true vision of Australian real estate.”
Meanwhile, Netflix’s perennially popular Selling Sunset is set in LA and stars Chrishell Stause. The show has proved a massive hit for the streaming giant, with each episode following LA’s hottest agents and the epic deals they make.
And then of course there’s Million Dollar Listing, which has branched out from the LA version featuring the Altman Brothers and Josh Flagg to New York (starring Ryan Serhant) and beyond to Miami and also San Francisco.
So, who are the agents said to be involved in this rumoured Melbourne reality show? Well as the Herald Sun notes “non-disclosure agreements are falling faster than an auctioneer’s hammer”, so the short answer is, we don’t know.
But rest assured, the Elite Agent team has its ears firmly to the ground and we’ll definitely keep you posted with any further updates.
