Georgia Tech’s Bergmann, Louisville’s Chaussee and Miami’s Heredia Colon Earn ACC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech’s Julia Bergmann and Louisville’s Claire Chaussee shared the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award, and Miami’s Flormarie Heredia Colon was named the ACC Volleyball Freshman of the Week.
Bergmann earned her third consecutive Player of the Week award following a career-best and program-record tying 38 kills in the No. 10 Yellow Jackets’ five-set reverse sweep of Florida State – the second highest number of kills in a five-set match in the NCAA this season. The Munich, Germany native is the first in Georgia Tech history to own four individual matches of 30 or more kills. The senior outside hitter averaged 6.0 kills per set on her way to amassing 54 kills on the weekend and surpassing 400 kills this season. Against the Seminoles, Bergmann tacked on 11 digs, two blocks and three aces. Two of those aces capped the fourth and fifth sets to seal a Yellow Jackets’ comeback. She also led Georgia Tech against Miami with 16 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and three aces. The reigning National Player of the Week tallied two more double-doubles to her resume and has 10 in 2022, the fifth most in the ACC this season.
Chaussee posted a career-high 24 kills against North Carolina with a .360 hitting percentage, boosting Louisville to an undefeated weekend and its 15th sweep of the season versus NC State. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native totaled 34 kills averaging 4.9 kills per set and added 14 digs over the weekend. She led the Cards in scoring in a 3-0 result against the Wolfpack with 10 kills, two assists, six digs and a block, closing out the second set with a kill before fueling Louisville to an 18-11 lead in the third set with back-to-back kills. Against the Tar Heels, Chaussee led the Cardinals with four kills and three digs in the first set, and extended her tally to 11 kills through the second set, fired off multiple attacks to keep Louisville alive through the third set before tying the fourth set at 23-23.
Heredia Colon helped lead Miami to an undefeated weekend, taking down No. 10 Georgia Tech in four sets and securing a five-set victory over Clemson.
