2 shot at cargo area near Miami International Airport; gunman detained

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A days-long dispute resulted in a shooting that wounded two men on Thursday night in a cargo area just west of the Miami International Airport, police said.

Miami-Dade Detective Argemis “AC” Colome released a statement saying the shooting was at 2360 NW 66th Ave. According to Greg Chin, a spokesman for MIA, the shooting was at a Miami-Dade County Aviation Department property occupied by Cargo Force, a freight forwarding company.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for MDPD, said the dispute — which had started several days ago — involved four people who work at Cargo Force. An argument escalated into a fight and a shooting that injured one man in the abdomen and the other in a lower extremity, Zabaleta said.

Airport district officers detained a 31-year-old gunman and another person for questioning, while relatives who also work at Cargo Force took the 18-year-old man and the 23-year-old man injured to the hospital, Zabaleta said

Meanwhile, outside of the Miami VA Medical Center, Miami police officers surrounded a silver Nissan that was riddled with bullets. The vehicle in the parking lot at 1201 NW 16th St. was related to the shooting near MIA, Miami police said.

Zabaleta said the two injured were transferred from the Miami VA Medical Center to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, and Miami-Dade officers were impounding the Nissan as evidence. Zabaleta said the condition of the two injured was stable.
