The Miami Heat have just wrapped up another successful training camp and are now just days away from the start of preseason. Now left with looming decisions to make for their opening night roster, team president, Pat Riley, and the Heat front office’s attention and expectations are fully geared towards winning the 2023 NBA championship.

While those expectations (from Riley and company) remain firm, the Heat’s decision to keep its current roster has been sacrificial for a certain team need. This includes an experienced, yet capable starting Power Forward.

In light of that fact, it was announced on Friday that Blake Griffin, a player who indeed meets that criteria, has signed with the Boston Celtics, the Heat’s longtime rival—and last year’s Eastern Conference Finals opponent. Yea, the ones who would eventually emerge victorious in seven games.

Boston had recently lost Danilo Gallinari for the upcoming season, as he sustained a torn ACL during the FIBA Men’s World Cup earlier this month. Gallinari, a player that Miami reportedly had a strong interest in, was signed by Boston during July’s free agency period.

Still and now, the 12-year veteran and 2009 first overall pick in Griffin, will look to alleviate Boston’s frontcourt depth.
