Miami Dade College to Partner with University of Miami Miller School of Medicine to Create Medical School Pathway for Minority Students

Miami, August 25, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will announce yet another strategic partnership with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM) at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, that will pave the way for minority students to realize their dream of becoming a physician. MDC President Madeline Pumariega and UM President Julio Frenk will be present to sign the agreement.

The Medical Scholars Program provides academic enrichment and career support for highly motivated underrepresented students, equipping them with the tools and resources they need to prepare for and apply to medical school. The seven-week summer program include learning from Miller School faculty, MCAT prep, individual mentoring, portfolio review and development, mock interview preparation, clinical shadowing, in-lab research, and more.

MDC biomedical science students will be selected each year for the program, which is free for all students and includes housing, meals, and transportation stipends.

UM and MDC have long been partners on creating innovative academic and workforce pathways for students.
