Miami offers another versatile defensive lineman in the transfer portal
The Miami Hurricanes have offered another versatile defensive lineman in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
UAB’s Antonio Moultrie announced via Twitter that UM extended an offer to him five hours after he announced he would be exploring his options in the portal.
Moultrie (6-4, 265) finished the 2021 season with 62 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and two sacks. He played 531 defensive snaps this season for UAB.
During a strong performance against BYU in the Independence Bowl, Moultrie totaled nine tackles and four tackles for loss as the Blazers won the game, 31-28.
Moultrie was an honorable mention selection to Conference USA’s All-Conference teams in 2021.
Moultrie has one more year of eligibility remaining at the college level.
Prior to the 2021 season, Moultrie shed more than 20 pounds from his frame and moved from the interior of the defensive line to a pass rushing outside linebacker.
During the 2020 and 2019 seasons, Moultrie started 10 games in 27 appearances while amassing 55 tackles (2.5 for loss), four pass breakups and an interception. He played the 2020 season at 290 pounds.
Moultrie was a Second Team All-Conference USA selection in 2020 as a defensive tackle.
That type of position versatility is something Cristobal values on the defensive line. During the 2021, season Moultrie played 25 percent of his defensive snaps on the interior.
Moultrie started his college career at Northeast Community College (Miss.) and signed with UAB as a defensive lineman in the 2018 recruiting class.
At the high school level, Moultrie was rated a two-star prospect out of West Florida Tech in Pensacola, Florida. He was listed at 6-feet-2 and 260 pounds coming out of high school. His two offers coming out of high school were from UAB and Southern Miss.
Miami already added a versatile defensive lineman earlier this month with USC’s Jake Lichtenstein announcing his intention to play at UM in 2022. At 6-feet-6 and 270 pounds Lichtenstien can play on the edge or inside.
