The Galaxy came out of the gates on the right foot in their 2022 campaign, winning four of their first six matches. However, they have cooled off since then, going just 2-2-1 last month, ending with a win over Austin FC in their last league match 13 days ago. That has pushed them down to fifth in the West with 23 points, one back of Austin, and six back of the conference, and league-leading Los Angeles FC. Their attack has been paced by star striker Chicharito, who is tied for 13th in the league with six goals.
The Timbers limp into Saturday after a rough end to the month of May. After their wild 7-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City, they have dropped three-straight matches, including being clean-sheeted by the Philadelphia Union in their last home match. They have been victorious just one of their last eight contests, going 1-4-3 during that span. They come into the weekend tied for 12th in the conference with the San Jose Earthquakes, just three points back of the Houston Dynamo, who hold the last playoff spot in the West. Their go-to weapon this season has been Bill Tuiloma, who leads the team with five goals.
