Jaden Rashada, top-ranked QB, verbally commits to Miami

While Miami was once one of college football’s premier programs, it’s been a long time since the Hurricanes were a perennial powerhouse and National Title Contender. Or, should we say: It’s been a long time since any of their nicknames felt appropriate for their on-field performance.

With one big-time recruit, new head coach Mario Cristobal might have just laid down the foundation to bring Miami some new glory days.

On Sunday, per a report from the Miami Herald’s David Wilson, four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada verbally committed to playing for the Hurricanes. If Rashad ends up putting pen to paper, he will have been the second-highest ranked quarterback recruit in Miami’s history.

Suffice to say: This is a big deal.

More from the Miami Herald:

Rashada’s lofty ranking comes both from his physical tools and his high school production. As a junior, Rashada went 146 of 256 for 2,220 yards, 27 touchdowns and just five interceptions, adding 25 carries for 193 yards and one more touchdown on the ground.

The Under Armour All-American immediately becomes the top-ranked prospect in the Hurricanes’ 2023 recruiting class, joining four-star athlete Robby Washington as the only two blue-chip players in the group so far. His commitment shoots Miami’s 2023 class up from No. 44 in the country to No. 33.

As fans seeking a bright future for their squad often do, Hurricanes supporters were thrilled to see the Rashada news.

Here’s how Hurricanes fans and college football Twitter took the news of Rashada’s commitment to Miami
