Body recovered in Miami Township after trench collapses on man
MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) – A recovery effort has ended after crews found the body of a man who became trapped when a trench collapsed on him at a home construction site, FOX19 NOW’s team at the scene reports.
The man, 56-year-old Mark Hines, was working by himself at a home on Foxpoint Ridge and went into a “deep, unshored trench he had been digging with an excavator,” the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said.
The trench collapsed on Hines.
He was found “after a period of time” by a Metropolitan Sewer District employee who was coming to inspect the property, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said. The sheriff’s office said they do not know why Hines entered the hole.
Around 2 p.m., the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was called to the home and the recovery effort started.
Then, around 6:30 p.m., FOX19 NOW’s crew said they saw a body, later identified as Hines, being taken away from the collapsed trench.
