Father of 6 shot to death outside his Miami Gardens home; gunman fled in white van

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A 45-year-old man was shot to death outside his home Thursday evening in Miami Gardens, police confirmed.

Officers with the Miami Gardens Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. to the 3500 block of Northwest 213th Street after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Family members identified the victim as 45-year-old Gabriel Hubbert.

Local 10 News was at the scene as Hubbert’s relatives gathered outside his home Friday, lighting candles and embracing one another in an emotional vigil.

Some family members were seen hugging and crying as they cleaned blood from the sidewalk. They shared photos of Hubbert and described him as a father of six and a man of faith who “never deserved this.”

“This man was not into anything where he deseved to get gunned down,” said Kinte Mitchell, a relative of Hubbert told Local 10’s Jolena Esperto.

“Brother Gabe was a righteous man,” said Steven, a man who knew Hubbert. “Whenever you saw him, he was just spreading the love of Jesus and just doing the lord’s will and spreading upon the blessings. This comes as a relative surprise to all of us.”

A bloodied shirt and blood stains were also spotted on a nearby sidewalk, along with a police cruiser stationed near where the gunfire erupted.

Police said preliminary findings indicate the suspected shooter fled the area in a white van. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Family members said they believe the gunman may have been involved in other shootings across Florida that same night, though authorities have not confirmed that information.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami Gardens Police Department at (305) 474-6473 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
